Construction Updates
Notification Date - August 8, 2025:
Advance utility and structural locate work for the new State/Lake CTA Station will begin this month, with lane closures scheduled to start on Lake Street on August 18 and on State Street on August 25. This early phase of construction will not include demolition work and will not affect CTA service at the existing State/Lake elevated station.

CTA Impacts
There are currently no impacts to the Red Line Lake station.
There are currently no impacts to the State/Lake bus stations.
Noise
Set up temporary enclosures around excavation areas to limit the sound disruption.
Monitors will be used to track the level of vibrations during excavation.

Traffic Impacts
Beginning Monday, August 18, Lake Street from Dearborn Street to Wabash Ave will be reduced to one lane for advance utility and structural locate work.
In the map below, the orange areas represent the work zone and the white arrows show the traffic flow.
On Monday, August 25, State Street from Lake Street to Randolph Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction

Working to Reduce Construction Headaches
Night Work
When needed, crews will work overnight to replace the structural support beams of the State/Lake station to minimize impacts to businesses in the area and the traveling public.
During overnight work crews will monitor decibel levels of all equipment being used.
All lighting will be contained to the work zone so as not to disturb nearby businesses, hotels and residences.
Pedestrian Impacts
No pedestrian impacts are anticipated at this time.
Construction is loud, messy and impactful to your daily routine. Aside from sharing updates in the Construction Update newsletters and keeping the construction website up to date, there are a few more ways the project team is working to keep construction impacts to a minimum.
Dust Control
Spray the area with water before excavation starts.
Set up temporary enclosure around excavation areas to limit the spread of dust.
Bird & Rodent Control
To protect birds from nesting or roosting in construction areas, work zones will avoid using flat or low sloped surfaces on temporary enclosures, such as roofs and ledges.
All rodent control operations will use environmentally safe materials.
